Home - Journeys - Netherland, Arcen 2025 - Friday, August 22, 2025

Today we leave for Arcen where we will stay for three nights.
We plan to leave around 10:30, but it ends up being a bit later, 11:00. According to our GPS, we should arrive at our destination around a quarter to one.
The route is quite busy at times, and that starts as soon as we join the A50. There's a traffic jam at the Beekbergen junction because the rush-hour lane is closed for roadworks (which we don't see on the way, by the way).
Further on, around Nijmegen, it's busy and traffic moves slowly. In the other direction, towards Apeldoorn, it's even busier, with miles of slow-moving traffic.
But then the traffic moves quickly, until we reach Arcen, where a detour makes it difficult to reach the hotel.
At one o'clock, fifteen minutes later than expected, we enter the parking lot.

We can't check in yet; the room won't be ready until around three o'clock, which the hotel had already stated.
Since we haven't had lunch yet, we decide to have lunch at the hotel. As we sit on the terrace, we get the impression that the hotel, and especially the terrace, has changed since our last visit. It's become larger, and the driveway to the parking lot has been moved. There also seems to be extra space for bicycle storage.
We order a salad with various types of fish for lunch, and it tastes good. Afterward, we immediately reserve a table for dinner.

After dinner, we can finally get to our room, which is just up one flight of stairs and right next to it. The room is small, as we knew beforehand, but it's neat and clean. With a bit of searching we can also find a good place for our suitcase and we can also sit on the chairs that are there.
We tidy up our luggage, especially toiletries. And we put our bikes in one of the two bike sheds.

We go outside and stroll around the market square in Arcen. Not much has changed since our last visit. We have a drink at one of the cafes, 't Zoete Genot, it's too chilly and windy on the terrace, so we sit inside. We don't find it very cozy.

We arrive at the hotel restaurant earlier than agreed, we can get a table anyway, choosing between the terrace or inside, we choose inside.
The food tastes good: lamb and chicken.

We decide, especially since it might rain tomorrow, to go for a walk tomorrow and a bike ride on Sunday.
